This monument commemorates Brigadier General Edward Stevens, who commanded the left wing of the American second line.
The inscription on the monument reads:
ON THIS SPOT BRIG. GEN. EDWARD STEVENS WAS WOUNDED WHILE MAKING A GALLANT STAND WITH HIS VIRGINIA TROOPS
ERECTED BY THE CULPEPPER MINUTE MEN CHAPTER D.A.R. OF CULPEPPER, VIRGINIA 1931
