This monument is dedicated to the memory of the Continental troops from the colony of Delaware and to the memory of the three Delaware soldiers who were reburied beneath it. The remains of the three were found on July 12, 1888 by Judge David Schenck and his wife while walking on a farm one-half mile north of the battlefield. Modern research has identified the remains as Private Cornelius Hagney, Private John Toland and Private William Drew. The inscription on the monument reads: THURSDAY |
