This monument is dedicated to the memory of Dr. David Caldwell, who was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1725. During his life he served as a minister at the Buffalo and Alamance Presbyterian churches, in Guilford County. He was a self-taught physician and the founder of a school, known as the log college. After the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, Dr. Caldwell treated the wounded from both sides of the conflict. He served as a member of the Halifax Convention and as a delegate to the North Carolina Constitutional Convention. The inscription on the monument reads: DR. DAVID CALDWELL |
