Arthur Forbis, born in 1746, was a captain in the Guilford County Militia. He was wounded, by gunfire, on the morning of March 15, 1781 and lay wounded on the battlefield. Some time later he was found by a British soldier who stabbed him with his bayonet. Capt. Forbis, now twice wounded, lay on the battlefield throughout the following night. He was found by local citizens on the evening of March 16 and was then taken to his home where he was treated by Dr. David Caldwell. He died a few days later, of his wounds. The inscription on the monument reads: IN HONOR OF |
