John Daves, born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, in 1748, moved to New Bern, North Carolina in the year 1770. In June, 1776, he was appointed a Quartermaster in the Second North Carolina Regiment. He served in this position until May, 1780, at which time he was captured, in Charleston, South Carolina. He later was exchanged and went on to serve, as a Captain, at the battle of Eutaw Springs, in September, 1781. He was given the honorary title of brevet major, after the war. |
